RSM McGladrey got some good face time on television during the four-day Masters golf tournament. In fact, it's been a good year for McGladrey and the golf world.
The Bloomington-based accounting, tax and business consulting firm is a corporate sponsor of Zach Johnson, the 2007 Masters champion, 2008 contender and rising star in the PGA. Johnson wears the McGladrey logo on his golf clothing.
McGladrey began its relationship with Johnson in 2006 after one of the RSM partners based in Johnson's hometown of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, brought the young golfer to the company's attention.
And it's been a good relationship. A sponsorship evaluation by Joyce Julius & Associates concluded that Johnson's TV exposure during last year's Masters was worth $2 million in advertising to McGladrey, which subsequently devoted 40 percent of its marketing budget to golf and created a McGladrey team including professionals Chris DiMarco and Natalie Gulbis. The firm also sponsors a national best-ball tournament for amateurs.
